want a non-black nomination?
Sci-Fi writer Eric Flint. in his 1632 novels, two of his main characters are black (James Nichols and his daughter); Nichols is a doctor. AND Flint reminds everyone that Othello was a black man, that before "triangle trade" was set up in the new world that "Black" or "African" just meant "exotic".
James and Sharon Nichols are "real", complex characters, products of their enviroment but also products of overcoming their enviroment.
really, read the books.
